Questions You Never Thought to Ask Regarding Insurance Reimbursement

Can I bill my insurance for reimbursement of my out-of-pocket expenses?

This depends on the insurance you have, but in most cases, you can bill for insurance reimbursement! Most non-Medicare patients can send “self-claims” to their insurance company for treatments provided by an out-of-network provider.

Consult your insurance company to ask the following questions:

  1. Can I submit claims for reimbursement of self-pay services?
  2. What is the process necessary to submit for reimbursement of self-pay services? What forms are needed and where do I send them?
  3. What is the timeframe for reimbursement and how much should I expect to receive?
  4. What is required from my provider to submit for reimbursement? Typically this is an itemized list of services provided which we will happily provide.

The amount of reimbursement or application towards your deductible is dependent on your insurance plan. When you call your insurance company, inquire about what reimbursement you can expect to receive for “out-of-network Physical Therapy” expenses sent in via self-claims.
